| Intelligence
of the Sacral Belly; and Meditation with
Patricia Sullivan
Saturday, February 23 – noon-5pm, - $100
In this workshop we will explore the six directions of spinal
movement starting from the sacral belly and the sacrum bone. Once
integrated, these intentional movement patterns—whether
in dynamic action, or alert stillness—stimulate body and
energy as well as mind and heart toward releasing deeply ingrained
habits, unfolding greater freedom and joy on all levels.
The
pelvic or sacral belly acts an energetic hub: a small amount of
movement from here magnifies its expression as it moves out to
and beyond the periphery of our body. Thus, movement from this
hub needs to be aligned, as that magnification can distort as
well as free the body and energy.
When
movement is initiated from the sacral belly, and thus the sacrum,
and flows from there toward the periphery, awareness and life
force also flow with that movement. The nadis - energy channels
- are cleansed a little more with each breath. As long as we are
breathing there is an endless supply of this life prana, but it
can get blocked for many reasons. With awareness and intention
the movement of the prana through the channels of the body can
definitely be enhanced.
Once
experienced, this way of working can permeate any style of asana
approach, and brings both stability and ease, both prerequisites
for the meditation practice which helps us to a cleansing and
nourishing of mind and spirit. |

and where its power lies. Together we will learn the rudiments
of chant, how to develop a more potent chanting voice, and how
to use chant as part of your daily yoga practice. Take your first

| Yoga
Sutras with Patricia
Sullivan
Sunday, March 30 – 1-6pm, - $100
The Yoga Sutras offer many gems of wisdom to guide us on the sometimes
difficult and challenging path of yoga, which is actually the
path of our life. These gems are strung together like pearls of
a necklace by an invisible thread connecting all the teachings;
thus any one of the sutras can be examined and practiced to find
one's way.
Some
of the sutras are quite easy to learn in the traditional way of
chanting, and they become deeply imbedded in our consciousness
when they are repeated as a mantra.
In
this workshop we will examine a few sutras and learn to chant
one or more, and then use them within the context of practice.
Most of the workshop will be lecture, discussion and learning
to chant, with the final hour as a short practice through a few
asanas, some simple pranayama, and ending with a meditation.

| Hips,
Knees, Low Back - February
16, 2008 |
|
|
It’s
all in the hips…Ideal for runners and cyclists, this workshop
will address alignment in the hips and their effects on
the knees and lower spine. The repetitive action of pedaling
in cycling creates inherent tightness in the hips and
often translates to knee and low back challenges. The
biomechanics of running and cycling can be improved with
better alignment and range of motion of the hips, while
reducing risk of injury. |
Shoulders and Upper Back - March
8, 2008 |
|
| Why
shoulder the burden? In this workshop, we will focus on
the shoulders and upper back. In swimmers, strength develops
in the upper arms, back and shoulders, but often at the
expense of muscle length, alignment and freedom of movement.
Daily
activities commonly compromises shoulder alignment and
can exaggerate the natural curves of the upper back and
neck. We will practice poses that address these areas,
working on aligning the spine and freeing the shoulders.
This workshop is also ideal for those who work at a computer. |
Optimal Recovery - Restorative Yoga - April
5, 2008 |
|
| Restorative
poses promote balance in the commonly overworked systems
of the body. The high-energy aspects of daily activities,
whether intense exercise or stressful work, can place
significant stress on both the mind and the body.
Stress
literally stimulates the “fight or flight” response of
the nervous system, breaking down muscle and rapidly utilizing
stored energy. Restorative poses reduce and counteract
the stress response, enhancing recovery and peace within. |
