Destry Turner has been a student of yoga since she was very young---though she didn't necessarily know she was "doing" yoga until later. It started with a yoga book for kids, with an old man in a turban. She became fascinated by the funny shapes you could make with your body. As a teenager, she stumbled upon another book teaching more about the sacredness of movement/asana. Her first yoga class experience, at age 18, was taught in the Iyengar tradition. Destry feels she has been blessed with many amazing teachers! Her practice evolved from something private and personal to realizing yoga was a gift to share. After a very serious accident at 22, Destry took her first Ashtanga class and felt a combination of being run over by a bus mixed with the true strength of yoga's healing power. A year later she took her first teacher training with Ashtanga teacher Tim Miller. Since 2004, Destry is honored to have taught all over the world with classes ranging from one to fifty students.

Introduction
to Iyengar Yoga – Learn the Foundations
with Stefanie Renard
Saturdays, February 25; March 3, 10, 17
1:00 – 2:30 PM - $65/Series
This four week course is meant for students completely new to yoga or
who want to refine their poses to deepen and revitalize their practice. These
classes will be taught in the Iyengar tradition which applies a specific
methodology to introducing students to asana. The poses are taught in a logical
progression so that actions can be learned and practiced repeatedly in a
variety of poses. Students progress safely and gain and understanding of
how to apply basic alignment principles in their practice.
These 4 sessions will cover the basic standing, seated, and supine
poses. Stefanie will also teach
introductory inversions and restorative asanas. This course will be challenging
and thoughtful and will provide tools students can apply to regular classes.
Stefanie Renard is a dedicated student of yoga
and is fortunate to study with Manouso Manos. She is completing a 500-hour
Iyengar teacher training under Gloria Goldberg

Yoga for Scoliosis Workshop with Elise Miller
Saturday, June 9, 1:00-5:00pm
$75 by May 26; $90 at the door – pre-registration advised
Elise presents her internationally acclaimed workshop on
working with scoliosis. This 4-hour class is designed to present information and
experience in the ways Iyengar Yoga can be used to meet the challenges of
scoliosis. We will include anatomical background on scoliosis, identify each
participant’s scoliosis, and discuss cause and effect as well as psychological
consequences of scoliosis. Participants will learn optimal yoga postures for
scoliosis as well as how to adapt specific yoga postures to their scoliosis. By
combining the yoga postures with breathing awareness, one can develop more
structural alignment of the body and become more symmetrical and balanced.
Through yoga, one can find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to
coexist with gravity and activates the body’s natural
line.
This workshop is appropriate for anyone with scoliosis
whether he/she is currently a yoga student or not. Teachers are urged to attend
in order to be more skillful when assisting their students with scoliosis.
