Yoga for Scoliosis Workshop with Elise Miller

  Elise_group.jpg

Saturday, June 9, 1:00-5:00pm
$75 by May 26; $90 at the door – pre-registration advised

Elise presents her internationally acclaimed workshop on working with scoliosis. This 4-hour class is designed to present information and experience in the ways Iyengar Yoga can be used to meet the challenges of scoliosis. We will include anatomical background on scoliosis, identify each participant’s scoliosis, and discuss cause and effect as well as psychological consequences of scoliosis. Participants will learn optimal yoga postures for scoliosis as well as how to adapt specific yoga postures to their scoliosis. By combining the yoga postures with breathing awareness, one can develop more structural alignment of the body and become more symmetrical and balanced. Through yoga, one can find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity and activates the body’s natural line.
This workshop is appropriate for anyone with scoliosis whether he/she is currently a yoga student or not. Teachers are urged to attend in order to be more skillful when assisting their students with scoliosis.

SUSY STEWART

Deepen Your Practice Workshop
Sunday, June 10, 12:30-2:30pm
$25 prepay, $30 at the door

This workshop will cover the basics of standing poses, forward extensions, back extensions, inversions and restoratives. It is for students who are ready to deepen their practice and explore the incredible benefits of this ancient transformational practice.

Learn the Ropes Workshop
Sunday, June 24, 12:30-2:30pm
$25 prepay, $30 at the door

BKS Iyengar pioneered the use of wall ropes to assist in developing the body to do poses independently. These tools provide traction and support for stiff and flexible people alike, and allow those with neck or shoulder limitations to safely practice variations of headstand.  Wall ropes make students more aware of their alignment, and help open areas of the body that might be difficult to reach without the ropes. The ropes were used extensively at the last workshop I attended in India.

This workshop will show you how to do standing poses, inversions, forward bends and backbends with the ropes. And . . . IT’S FUN!

Please send your check to Turtle Island Yoga, PO Box 216, Woodacre, CA 94973 or pay today through PayPal.

with Eric Shaw

Saturday, August 18, 1:30-4:30pm

$35 pre-registered by August 8; $45 thereafter

Yoga isn’t just physical.  It’s a full-on practice with skillsets developed over thousands of years.  This is barely hinted at in regular classes, but in Yoga x 3, we’ll focus broadly, explaining the tradition's history, philosophy and practice . . . all in a 3-hour sweep.

In this training, we’ll re-engineer mind and body with new postures, breathing practices, and health secrets, while learning the philosophy and history behind yoga's abundant, time-tested system.

Students who finish this workshop will learn how yoga evolved, understand its worldview, and learn new ways to align breath, body, and mind.

Eric Shaw maintains a lively national and international yoga teaching schedule in which he shares innovative approaches to vinyasa yoga and gives talks on the tradition with rare imagery. He is an E-RYT 500 and holds Masters Degrees in Education, Religious Studies, and Asian Studies as well as two degrees in Art.  His essays appear in Yoga Journal, Common Ground and other publications, and he is writing a book on yoga history for Anusara Press.
